River of the Falls - Score

The Deschutes River flows north from its headwaters at Little Lava Lake to its final destination, joining the mighty Columbia River. The river’s course extends through the traditional lands of the Native Americans of the region, especially the Tenino people who referred to the river as Towarnehiooks. The indigenous tribes depended on the many bounties the river could provide. Later, French explorers produced the name “Riviere des Chutes” or “River of the Falls”. This piece evokes the majesty of the many waterfalls, whitewater sections, eddies and deep clear pools one would experience in a trip down this beautiful body of water.
